Saturday 11 October 2014, at 11:30 am, Choisi -
one at a time, hosted by MACT/CACT in Bellinzona, will present the artist's
book Sans titre (M. Bertillon) by
Stéphanie Solinas.
Alphonse Bertillon is considered
the inventor of anthropometry (Paris, 1882); a criminal identification system
based on photographic portraits, taken frontally and in profile, which are
accompanied by a description of specific somatic traits of the subject,
including measurements of the head and other body parts.
The first part of the book is composed of 23
rectangles which can be cut into pieces; once cut and reassembled they form a
paper mask resembling Bertillon. In the second part of the book there are 23
photographs and 23 extracts from writings by Suzanne Bertillon.
The artist will illustrate her creative process
in the realisation of Sans titre, a
book which engages the reader interactively, inviting reflection about
identity, through the reconstruction of Bertillon's face.
Biography
Stéphanie Solinas was born in 1978. She lives in
Paris and Barcelona.
Following her studies at Louis Lumière College
she focused on various techniques, including books and installations, which
allowed her to further examine the photographic medium. Her work is a
reflection about the relationship between the individual and modern society,
and upon the concept of identity as a contact point between self and other.
She has exhibited internationally in many
institutions and galleries, among them, CNAC Le Magasin, Grenoble (2013); FOAM
Fotografie Museum, Amsterdam (2012); Philips De Pury, New York (2011); La
Maison Rouge, Paris (2010).

Bellinzona, presenta il libro d'artista Sans
titre (M. Bertillon) di Stéphanie Solinas.
Alphonse
Bertillon è considerato l'inventore dell'antropometria segnaletica (Parigi,
1882): un sistema d'identificazione criminale, fondato sul ritratto fotografico
frontale e di profilo, accompagnato dalla descrizione dei particolari somatici
del soggetto da schedare, insieme alle misurazioni della testa e dei relativi
segmenti corporei.
La prima parte
del libro è costituita da 23 rettangoli da ritagliare che, una volta
assemblati, formano una maschera di carta con le sembianze di Bertillon. Nella
seconda parte del libro 23 fotografie sono accompagnate da altrettanti estratti
di testi di Suzanne Bertillon.
L'artista
illustrerà il processo creativo e di realizzazione di Sans titre, un libro che coinvolge il lettore interattivamente,
invitandolo a riflettere sulla propria identità,
attraverso la ricostruzione del volto di Bertillon.
Biografia
Stéphanie
Solinas è nata nel 1978. Vive tra Parigi e Barcellona.
Dopo gli studi
fotografici presso l'ENS Louis Lumiere, si impegna nella pratica di diverse
tecniche, tra cui il libro e l'installazione, che le permettano di indagare
ulteriormente il medium della fotografia. La sua pratica riflette sul rapporto
dell'individuo con la società moderna e sul concetto di identità come area di
contatto tra il sé e l'altro.
Ha esposto
presso istituzioni e gallerie internazionali tra cui CNAC Le Magasin, Grenoble
(2013); FOAM Fotografie Museum, Amsterdam (2012); Philips De Pury, New York
(2011); La Maison Rouge, Parigi (2010).
